New Things A' Coming!

We've been getting a lot of questions about opening up a new space. I haven't really been entertaining it because I love having the freedom to travel, but we want to give our lovely customers what they want. Jen and I decided that we would throw a shopping party, so we can make everything we have available to you. We are just working out the details so if you are on the mailing list you'll get an invite soon and if not sign up on the top right corner.
Here are some things that are going up soon...

Swedish Love

My ipod is becoming a blackhole. I constantly add music to it that was given to me by friends and i some times end up with so much stuff I don't get a chance to really listen to it. My friend just suggested El Perro del Mar and as i was browsing it on itunes I realized it sounded familiar . . . a quick check of my music and there it was waiting for a spin. This wonderful swedish discovery has been hanging out in my ipod for awhile - what a waste. It also made me wonder what else Sweden has to offer. I ended up downloading Jonna Lee and Anna Jarvinen (who sings in Swedish so I have no idea what she says, but still sounds great!). Totally perfect songs to work to. So I'm spreading the swedish love, if you dont have these singers on your ipod check them out.

Press play on the mixpod to hear a couple songs.

Oh yay it's friday, so for your viewing pleasure . . . .Liberace

Ahh Fall

It's been so beautiful the past couple days in New York. I just got an amazing curly sheep vest that I was dying to wear and I wanted some pics of my dogs, so I grabbed the dogs and hit the park.

Boxed In

I've been a bad girl not posting all week. I decided to take a couple days to reorganize my office and all the clothing racks. It was going really well until USPS started dropping off what seemed like a million boxes. Each one from my mother. It was a little shocking to see that many boxes. A phone call from my mom revealed she had cleaned up at a couple estates and just sent it all to me. More clothes, shoes, jewelry and books to find space for. I will never really complain about all the great stuff that we have (and I would never complain that I have an awesome mom who sends boxes stuffed with vintage as care packages), but as you can see my library is turning into a glorified closet. So that's what I've been doing this week - and Monday it's business as usual.

P.S. I would never forget that it's friday . . . .

I'm crazy about these sequin shoulders from a dress that is coming soon!

Naeem Khan - You Had Me at Home Page

The first thing that I noticed about Naeem Khan's website is the intro - I mean it's sparkling sequins! It reminded me of our Hudson Top. The next thing I noticed was his hippie luxe clothing that embraced his indian heritage and some serious bohemian glam. I heart this line.

I Think I Like Maxi Dresses

It was right before one of my first high school dances and I came into the kitchen wearing a long black dress. My mother scrunched up her nose and said "why not something shorter? You have such nice legs." I looked at myself and sighed - it was a little blah. I switched to a shorter black skirt and top and headed out to the dance. That evening I got so many compliments that I vowed never to wear a long dress or skirt again. Fast forward to today - Sitting in a showroom I spy a beautiful maxi dress, so awesome I think I want it. My head starts to ache. This defies everything I have taught myself to feel. Over the next couple hours I see them everywhere, in the subway, in store windows and magazines. I make it back to the office and flip through the racks. Grabbing a couple I try them on and settle on the one I'm wearing now - a sheer black t shirt dress that I threw over leggings and a tank and added a gold belt. I think I really like it. I may have converted.

Since it's Friday . . .

I'm just gonna go ahead and put it out there - I have an unhealthy obsession with sequins. It's the sparkle and the shine. How can it not be awesome! I'm now devoting Fridays to pay tribute to this obsession. Please enjoy.

So the website is finished and the orders are coming in. I'm really excited but also overwhelmed by the amount of things that still have to go up on the site-I'm talking hundreds of things. So we booked a shoot this week to finish up our jackets coats etc. and as I gave a total to Jen she pointed out that she also had another rack of jackets at her place - oy vey! So we will be marathon shooting these items to put up. The good thing is your gonna love them, faux fur, real fur, Christian Dior blazers, leather, military, fendi and so much more. Here is a sneak peak of one of my faves. . . .

Tightening Our Belts

Back in April Jen met a man in Brooklyn who was converting a vintage belt factory into an art gallery. He was stuck with thousands of belts and was trying to get rid of them, so Jen and I decided to take a few off his hands. We were shown around this huge warehouse, escorted to the top floor and left to explore the factory on our own. We were totally overwhelmed within the first five minutes. 20 years worth of dust covered everything, birds were flying around and we had no idea what creatures we would encounter in each box. We picked through boxes and boxes of stuff and gathered some really cool belts. We then grabbed our stuff and proceeded to the nearest staircase, but it was closed. We found a second staircase - closed! Then a third - closed! We then called the guy to send up the elevator, but he didn't answer. For a brief moment I envisioned having to climb out a window and shimmy down the side of the building, but we split up and looked in every nook and cranny until we found a little rickety stair case. I was a little panicked by the look of the staircase, but Jen was already racing down it leaving the scary factory in her wake. We made it home in one piece with some really awesome belts.

The end of the line

It's the last day of our Vancouver tripand I had one last spot to take the girls. To get there I drove down Hastings st., which has one of the largest populations of homeless, drug addicts and hookers in North America. I didn't think that much about it until Jen pointed out the window and asked what was going on. Throngs of the shadiest people were all over the side walks, cracked out and some just lying on the side walk. I had been down that street hundreds of times and it had seemed normal to me, but it is strange. Even in New York the homeless are dispersed through the city and you don't see anything like that. We made it to our store and on the way back Jen asked to go back down the street. I slowly cruised down the street and we all looked out the window at the end of the line.

Day 8- Grinders Grouse as Jen likes to call it

We woke up this morning and crammed in more shopping before deciding to do the Grouse Grind (or as Jen likes to call it Grinders Grouse). The Grind is a hiking trail, but not just any trail - it's a ass busting, leg numbing, 2 mile climb up the side of a mountain. It will pretty much make every hike you did before and after seem like a joke. I had done it once before and the memories of feeling like I might die caused me to opt out and take the tram up instead. An hour and a half later the girls came up the stair case looking miserable and part of me felt guilty for not detailing exactly what they were getting into, the other part of me felt amused. (above- view from my comfy ride up)

Day 7 - Slow Your Roll

After a weekend of hitting every bar in town, getting lost, losing a bikini, spraining an ankle, fighting with a taxi driver and a guy with a cup of ice and very bad aim, and sleeping off our hangovers on the beach, Jen and I woke up this morning and realized we had not gotten any work done. We gathered the troupes (well actually only Henrietta was willing to get up),our over-sized sunglasses and our coffees and made our way through the city. Even though we were hurting from the night before it was totally worth it. We found lots of great things, including these leather lovelies above.

Day 4 - Where clothes go to die

So before picking up the ladies at the airport my mom convinces me to go to a place called liquidation world. As soon as I see the huge warehouse in the middle of nowhere I get a dubious feeling about the whole thing. I immediately go to my comfort zone - the clothing department and find the strangest thing... racks and racks filled with clothes from urban outfitters, steve and barry, forever 21 etc. . . all at 90% off. This is where clothes go to die. I scoop up a pair of urban outfitters skinny jeans, a slouchy tee and a diet pepsi for $22. Oh happy days. I then spend four hours at the airport trying to find everyone. Not so happy days. (pic - my loot)

Day 1 - Gonna Get Myself Into It

Day 1 - Day 1 is always shopping - ALWAYS! I have arrived a couple days before the girls, so I'm on my own for now. Well not exactly on my own- I'm with my mom. As we walk to the car to start our extravaganza she leans over and says in a conspiratory voice "I found some new spots for you" and my feet start to tingle. I love new spots. So for the next three days my mom drives me around and it becomes incredibly clear that she knows her "spots". I'm in vintage heaven. It also becomes incredibly clear that I will need another suitcase to lug this stuff back.(That's me above taking a coffee break).

Road Tripping - 3 days to go

It's been awhile since I've gone on a grand vintage extravaganza and my upcoming trip to Vancouver is making me really excited. Not only am I going home to hang out with friends and family, but Jen and our friends Henrietta and Debbie are joining me. I see drinks, laughs and awesome fashion finds in my future. The count down to take off begins . . .

ch ch ch changes

You may be wondering what happened to us in the past month. Though we have disappeared off the radar for a minute, we are busy bees behind the scenes. You may have noticed that the Wanderlust store is temporarily closed. Leelush decided to close down their store and website and that in turn left Wanderlust Vintage with no home. We decided to kick our website in high gear (which we are working on now), while we look for a new space. In the meantime we will posting some awesome finds that are available through paypal. We will also be posting some behind the scene action of our recent photo shoot and lots more stuff . . . . so stay tuned!

Workin 9 to 5

The girls of Wanderlust are not just pretty faces. We all have day jobs (Jen a bar owner, Rosie a boutique manager and myself a clothing/accessory designer) and we all inevitably have paper work to cart around the city. The other day Jen was relating a story where she was at a meeting and none of her documents would fit in her bag. "I wish I had the whiskey bag" she said wistfully referring to a new bag that we are all obsessed with. Two days later I found this little straw wonder and while waiting in the checkout a customer pointed at it and said "that's perfect for magazines and papers". Hmmm even people outside of corporate america need briefcases. So I'm now on the look out for cool briefcase-esque bags. I'll let you know what I find. As for the two bags above - they are both available now at Wanderlust.

Jen just sent me this picture. We like to reward ourselves after a hard day of shopping - preferably with alcohol. That day it was wine and cookies.

Fashion Is So Passé

Zarie told me I had to let you guys know why I love vintage so much. . . . WHERE DO I BEGIN? When I buy something from a store and its vintage I think to myself. . . . Where did this women wear it? Was it a grand event, something spectacular in her life, a moment in a night when they were wearing this bag these shoes this dress and it all changed? I make up stories in my head , you'll often hear me say to Zarie or Jen when we are shopping - "Maybe she wore this clutch on her 1st date with her future husband? Maybe she had a great interview and wore this button down under that blazer and got a promotion? Maybe that Fringe dress was worn out dancing on her 30th birthday?" It sort of connects me to the past that I love so much. The women that they were, makes me feel like I am sharing in that moment all over again. The women who wore all these things that I love to collect that had that special flare that saw the greatness in each piece of clothing or accessory that I NOW HOLD.
When Zarie and Jen came to me with this grand idea HOW COULD I NOT JUMP ON IT A lot of travel - a lot of shopping - a little planning. . . sounds like a FANTASTIC TIME to me . . . JOIN US FOR THE RIDE its sure to be amusing!!
